Disney Destiny Floats Out in Germany with Heroic Flair

Hallo aus Deutschland—hello from Germany! The magic of Disney Cruise Line reached new heights this past weekend at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, where not one but two major milestones set the stage for future adventures.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, the highly anticipated Disney Destiny made its grand debut from the shipyard hall, gliding aft-first into the harbor. Leading the way were Spider-Man and his trusty Spider Bots on the stern, while Hero Minnie waved proudly to greet the heroes-and-villains-themed vessel. This “Float Out” marks a cherished maritime tradition, signaling the ship is one step closer to its maiden voyage.

Inside the Destiny

Now docked outside Meyer Werft, the Disney Destiny is getting her finishing touches, with work continuing on the upper deck and stunning interior spaces. Guests can expect a blend of heroic design, immersive experiences, and Disney magic when she sets sail this November.

A Sister Ship Takes Shape

Just a day earlier, another chapter in Disney Cruise Line’s story began. Leaders from Disney Signature Experiences, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Meyer Werft—alongside Captain Mickey Mouse—took part in the steel-cutting ceremony for a new Disney Wish-class ship set to launch in 2027. At approximately 144,000 gross tons, accommodating 4,000 guests, and powered by LNG, this future vessel promises eco-friendly voyages with all the wonder Disney is known for.

Magic Beyond the Shipyard

Captain Mickey’s Papenburg visit didn’t stop at shipbuilding. He joined Disney VoluntEARS at St. Lukas Heim, a center supporting young people with disabilities, for a day of joy-filled activities including story time, face painting, and creative mask-making.

With the Disney Destiny’s heroic voyage on the horizon and a new ship in the works, the seas ahead for Disney Cruise Line are looking brighter—and more magical—than ever.
