Disneyland Resort Honors Purple Heart Recipients with Special Ceremony
On August 7, National Purple Heart Day, Disneyland Resort paid tribute to 11 veterans awarded the Purple Heart medal during a heartfelt version of its daily flag retreat ceremony at Disneyland Park. This cherished tradition, held every day since the park’s opening, celebrates those who have bravely served the nation, and on this occasion, it honored an extraordinary group of heroes.
The veterans, accompanied by their families, gathered around the flagpole in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A., standing with hands over their hearts as a tribute voiceover recognized their courage and sacrifice in defending freedom. Each honoree received an American flag displayed in a shadow box, symbolizing deep gratitude for their service.
Marine Corps Maj. Darryl Ellis expressed the significance of the event, saying, “It’s a huge honor for us to be here… recognizing those who were wounded making a sacrifice for our country to maintain our freedom and get to enjoy days like this in remembrance. The recognition that The Walt Disney Company and Disneyland has of our veteran community means the world.”
A Legacy of Honoring Service at Disney
Disneyland’s daily flag retreat ceremony embodies a longstanding tradition of respect for military service, rooted in Disney’s history. Walt and Roy O. Disney both served during World War I, establishing a legacy of honoring veterans that continues today. The special ceremony on National Purple Heart Day highlights Disney’s lasting appreciation for those who have shown extraordinary bravery in the line of duty.
Military Offers Extend Thanks Year-Round
Beyond ceremonies, Disneyland Resort supports military members and veterans with exclusive offers available year-round. Additionally, discounted rates are offered at Disneyland Resort hotels and Good Neighbor Hotels for eligible military personnel.
For guests planning a visit with these offers, it’s important to check the theme park reservation availability calendar before purchasing tickets. Reservations are required for each park visit day and can be booked up to 180 days in advance, subject to availability.
