Downtown Disney District has always been the Disneyland Resort’s handy little in-between: close to the parks, close to the hotels and very good at convincing a casual stroll to become dinner, dessert and a new souvenir bag.

This outdoor promenade is continuing its evolution, particularly on the west end, where a new entrance, fresh shops and restaurants pair with Southern California mid-century modern-inspired design. Admission is complimentary, so there is no park ticket required to wander in and see what is cooking.

A Food Hall, a Dumpling Window and Prime Rib at the Table

Dining is having quite the moment at Downtown Disney. Parkside Market, the district’s first food hall, gathers four concepts under one roof: coffee, frozen drinks and small bites from Sip & Sonder; California-leaning Korean bibimbap bowls at Seoul Sister; chicken sandwiches, salads and classic sides from GG’s Chicken Shop; and district views alongside cocktails and mocktails at Vista Parkside Market.

Din Tai Fung has opened its first freestanding restaurant at Downtown Disney, bringing Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Wontons, String Beans with Garlic, Cucumber Salad and Pork Chop Fried Rice to the table family-style. An indoor dumpling expo kitchen puts its 18-fold dumpling technique on display, and food can be ordered for takeout to enjoy at a hotel or at home.

For Mexican dining, Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán’s trio covers several moods: upscale Mexican cuisine and tequila-based cocktails at Paseo, open-air dining at Céntrico, and Mexican street-food staples to go at Tiendita. Meanwhile, Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby channels swinging 1960s London with British hits, an expansive district-view patio, beef Wellington, fish & chips, cottage pie, sticky toffee pudding, a tableside prime rib cart and visually lively cocktails. Quite the proper way to make a dinner reservation.

Sandwiches, Sweets and Snack Cart Side Quests

The new flagship Earl of Sandwich pays tribute to John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, credited with inventing the meal in 1762. Along with The Original 1762, The Full Montagu, The Holiday Turkey and other artisan-bread sandwiches, the location includes The Carvery, where premium pastrami is carved throughout the day. Soups, salads, breakfast, loaded oversized cookies and cinnamon rolls round out the lineup. Temporary Earl of Sandwich locations near the esplanade and a pop-up pod near Star Wars Trading Post also serve sandwiches, wraps, salads and sweets, while Earl of Sandwich Tavern on the district’s east side has salads, burgers, pasta, pizza and sandwiches.

New carts bring plenty of reasons to pause. Big Boi Lumpia Co., from Chef Barb Batiste, serves family-recipe Filipino spring rolls in pork, chicken, plant-based, ube and peach mango varieties, plus dipping sauces and seasonal specials. Cathy’s Cookies handles warm chocolate chip cookies by the dozen or bucket, milk, hot chocolate and ready-to-bake dough. Happy Ice scoops Philadelphia-style Italian ice made from real fruit, pure cane sugar and premium ingredients.

Other quick-service stops include powdered or glazed beignets at Beignets Expressed; portable over-the-top shakes at CrazyShake Window by Black Tap; pizza, sandwiches, salads and desserts at Napolini Pizzeria; artisan-and-farmer-inspired ice cream flavors at Salt & Straw; hand-dipped corn dogs at Blue Ribbon Corn Dog; churros at two California Churro locations; French macarons at Kayla’s Cake; and hand-rolled pretzels at Wetzel’s Pretzels, complete with a Southern California mural and pretzel door handle. Pop-up food trucks also make appearances with extra bites and treats.

Settle In—or Roll Straight Into a Bowling Lane

For a longer meal, the district’s table-service lineup covers a lot of culinary territory. Ballast Point Brewing Co. brings Southern California cuisine, shareables, burgers, tacos and a rooftop patio to its sea-themed brew pub. Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes pairs award-winning burgers and CrazyShakes with an ’80s-and-’90s pop and hip-hop-meets-SoHo atmosphere.

Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio blends New Orleans roots with California-fresh cooking, while singers and musicians perform jazz during dinner. Naples Ristorante e Bar serves Neapolitan-style pizza and pasta in a two-story setting inspired by Carnivale, with wine and patio seating. At Splitsville Luxury Lanes, sushi rolls, burgers, pizza, cocktails and beer share the bill with 20 bowling lanes, 25 big-screen TVs, interactive games at The Alley and local musicians outdoors.

Evenings also bring live Motown, rock, pop, reggae and special performances to the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage, where the lawn makes an easy spot to relax while little ones play. Shopping Bags, Assemble

The shopping roster has gained several new personalities. Avengers Reserve is stocked with comic books, collectibles, Super Hero apparel and role-play toys. Disney Wonderful World of Sweets puts house-made Werther’s Original Caramel popcorn, caramel apples, churro toffee and candy on display, with promenade-facing exhibition kitchens and confectionery characters named Poppi, Jimmi, Fluffi, Bonni and Lolli.

The D-Lander Shop focuses on trend-forward apparel, handbags and jewelry, including Kate Spade, Dooney & Bourke and a PANDORA Jewelry shop-within-a-shop. Disney Storyland Boutique is built to change its theme, décor and merchandise regularly; its current chapter is dedicated to all things cute and adorable.

Longtime and specialty stops include World of Disney, the resort’s largest Disney merchandise store; Disney Home; Curl Surf; the Kawaii Slime cart; The LEGO Store; laser-cut kirigami cards at Lovepop; PANDORA Jewelry; Pelé Soccer; Star Wars Trading Post; Sunglass Hut; Sephora; Disney art and collectibles at WonderGround Gallery; and Disney’s Pin Traders. Collectible Medallion Machines, Pressed Coin Machines and the Kaman's Art Shoppes, Inc. Caricatures kiosk add more take-home options. Still Coming Down the Promenade

More dining is on the way. Bopo Go!, created for Downtown Disney by Eric Wang and Philip Wang of Southern California-based Bopomofo Café, is planned as an Asia-inspired convenience-store-style café with authentic boba tea, real juices, matcha, signature beverages, elevated cup noodles, classic egg salad sandwiches, imported snacks and candies.

Michelin-starred Chef Joe Isidori is behind two upcoming concepts: Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon, a classic steakhouse with prime beef, seafood, sandwiches, salads, bourbon, cocktails and a lively center bar; and Pearl’s Roadside BBQ, a quick-service spot for pulled pork, beef brisket, house-made sauces, craft beer and moonshine cocktails.

Construction is also underway on Porto’s Bakery & Cafe. The Southern California favorite is known for sweet pastries and California-Cuban-inspired dishes, including Cheese Rolls and Potato Balls. This Downtown Disney location is set to become the first Porto’s with sit-down table service and a full bar.

For park-going visitors with valid admission, the Disneyland Monorail can be boarded at the Downtown Disney station for an approximately 13-minute ride around the resort before arriving in Tomorrowland. Whether the agenda calls for a full meal, a quick sugar detour or one more shopping lap, Downtown Disney has become a destination with plenty of plot twists.
