Avengers Campus Expansion Takes Flight in 2028 at Disney California Adventure

Avengers Campus is preparing for its biggest mission yet. Disney California Adventure’s Super Hero headquarters is doubling in size, adding two new attractions in 2028—and reconnecting the land with Cars Land along the way.

The incoming recruits are Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, both originally announced at D23 2024. One sends recruits across the Marvel multiverse to stop King Thanos; the other straps them into a high-speed training experiment with a very large robot arm. Sounds like a perfectly normal day at Stark Industries.

A Bigger Campus Is Taking Shape

Construction is already underway on the major Avengers Campus expansion at Disney California Adventure. When complete, the project will double the size of the land and create a connection back to Cars Land.

Disney has confirmed that both Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab will open in 2028. That leaves some time to brush up on heroic poses—and possibly flight training.

King Thanos Has a Multiverse Problem

At Avengers Infinity Defense, recruits begin with a pre-mission briefing from Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani. The assignment: reassemble the Avengers and stop King Thanos before the Mad Titan causes havoc everywhere.

Several familiar Marvel stars are reprising their roles for the attraction:

  • Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye
  • Anthony Mackie as Captain America
  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man

From Asgard to New York, No Quinjet Required

The adventure places recruits amid massive physical sets that blend with enormous media scenes, creating the sensation of hurtling through multiple worlds. The itinerary includes Asgard, Wakanda and New York City, with beloved heroes nearby and King Thanos directly in the path ahead.

Disney Imagineers are using every trick in the book—and inventing a few new ones—to build the attraction’s sweeping, world-hopping action.

Stark Flight Lab Is Ready for Takeoff

Over at Stark Flight Lab, recruits will board two-person “gyro-kinetic pods” that roll along a track before pulling up beside a giant robot arm. From there, high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and other flying Avengers send the pods whirling through a simulated flight test.

Robert Downey Jr. returns as Iron Man, joined by Anthony Mackie as Captain America and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. For anyone who has ever wondered what Avenger training might feel like, this lab has the answer—and it appears to involve spinning.

Mark 2028 on the Mission Calendar

With two new attractions, a doubled-in-size land and a newly restored route to Cars Land, Avengers Campus is assembling a much larger future at Disney California Adventure. The countdown to 2028 is officially on.
