New Verse Debuts in Disney’s “it’s a small world” Song

A Fresh Note in a Timeless Tune

When thinking of classic Disney melodies, the earworm from “it’s a small world” likely tops the list. This beloved attraction, introduced at the 1964 New York World’s Fair and arriving at Disneyland in 1966, has long enchanted guests with its cheerful chorus and global message.

Now, nearly six decades later, the magic continues with the debut of a brand-new verse—written by the late Richard Sherman as his final gift to Disney. This touching addition premieres in the finale scene at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort on July 17, 2025.

A Message That Unites

Gregg Sherman, son of Richard Sherman, shared that the new lyrics celebrate unity and togetherness—core themes that have always defined the song. As he puts it, the verse reminds listeners “there’s more that unites us than divides us.”

Fans won’t need a park ticket to hear the updated tune either. A digital version of the song will be available on all major streaming platforms, and a special “It’s A Small World” 70th Anniversary vinyl edition will also be released.

A Legacy of Hope and Harmony

Since its creation, “it’s a small world” has stood as a beacon of global unity. Walt Disney envisioned an attraction that could reflect a world where humanity’s differences are celebrated—and its similarities cherished.

To achieve this, Disney entrusted brothers Richard and Robert Sherman—famed for hits from “Mary Poppins” and “The Jungle Book”—with crafting a universally appealing theme. The result: “It’s a Small World (After All),” one of the most recognizable and replayed Disney songs ever.

Visual Magic by Mary Blair

Complementing the catchy tune is the vivid art style of Disney Legend Mary Blair. Her bold, whimsical design helped shape the attraction’s unique look, cementing it as a fan favorite across Disney parks worldwide.

The addition of a final verse adds a new layer of emotional resonance, ensuring that “it’s a small world” continues to sing its timeless message—one that still feels as fresh and relevant today as it did in 1964.
