Monstropolis Is Coming to Walt Disney World — Here’s What We Know
Something big is happening at Disney's Hollywood Studios -- and we mean that in the most monstrous way possible.
Construction on Monstropolis is well underway, with steel rising behind the walls and new details emerging almost daily. Through a creative collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, the world of Monsters, Inc. is coming to life in a way fans have never experienced. And the story behind it? Just as good as the land itself.
A City Powered by Laughter
For generations, Monstropolis ran on fear -- screams, specifically. Monsters believed humans were dangerous, toxic, and absolutely off-limits (anyone else remember the decontamination protocols for a 2319?).
Everything changed when James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski discovered that human laughter generates far more power than screams. That breakthrough did not just solve an energy crisis -- it rewired how an entire city thought about humans. Fear gave way to curiosity. Caution gave way to connection. And the doors separating the monster world from ours started to feel a lot less like barriers.
Meet the Department of Human Relations
Everyone has heard of an HR department. Nobody has heard of this one.
As Monstropolis evolved, the city established the Department of Human Relations -- a dedicated team tasked with helping monsters better understand humans as welcomed guests. Their biggest project yet? Spearheading something once considered completely unthinkable: inviting humans into Monstropolis for the very first time.
That invitation even has a name.
H.U.M.A.N. Day: A Historic First
H.U.M.A.N. Day -- short for "Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice" -- marks a milestone for the city of Monstropolis. Part celebration, part cultural exchange, the event is designed to introduce humans to life inside the monster world while helping monsters realize that humans are not quite as frightening as they always assumed.
During H.U.M.A.N. Day, human guests can explore the city, meet its citizens, taste unique cuisine, and step into the everyday world of monsters in a totally new way. Two worlds once kept firmly apart are finally meeting face to scaly, furry, fang-filled face -- brought together not by screams, but by laughter.
A City Worth Exploring
As more of Monstropolis comes into view, one thing is clear: this is going to be a destination unlike anything else at Walt Disney World. Storefronts line the streets, industries hum alongside everyday life, and every corner reflects the quirky, character-filled world fans fell in love with on screen.
Iconic spots are already part of the picture -- including Harryhausen's, the legendary restaurant monsters line up for, and the Glob Theater, adding even more personality to every corner of the city.
