Discover the New National Geographic Expeditions 2025 Itineraries

Travelers will soon have the opportunity to explore three exciting new itineraries with National Geographic Expeditions.

Starting in 2025, Australia, Portugal and the Azores, and Sri Lanka will be added to the Signature Land portfolio. These countries, each rich with unique history and culture, will offer travelers a deeper connection to their destinations through National Geographic storytelling, guided by National Geographic Experts and local guides.

The new tours are designed to immerse guests in the heart of each country, offering insights into history, wildlife, and diverse landscapes. Each journey features a National Geographic Expert, whose expertise ranges from filmmaking and conservation to archaeology and geography, enriching the travel experience with their unique perspectives.

Bookings for the 2025 Signature Land itineraries with National Geographic Expeditions are open now. Early bookings before September 4, 2024, offer savings of $400 per person on select 2025 North America Signature Land departures or $500 per person on select 2025 International Signature Land departures.

Australia: Reefs, Rainforests, and Wild Tasmania

This 11-day itinerary highlights Australia's nature, wildlife, and Aboriginal cultures. Guests will explore the Great Barrier Reef, indigenous artwork, and meet local wildlife conservation experts. Key highlights include:

  • Exploring the Tasmanian coast with inspiration from 2012 National Geographic Traveler of the Year, Robert Pennicott.
  • Snorkeling and swimming in the UNESCO World Heritage Great Barrier Reef, with options for semi-submersible boat tours or underwater observatory visits.
  • Observing protected wildlife like fairy penguins at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and learning about conservation efforts.
  • Trekking through the Daintree Rainforest with Aboriginal guides.
  • Visiting the Port Arthur Australian Convict Site and the Sydney Opera House, both UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Portugal and the Azores: Explorers, Ecological Wonders, and Epicurean Delights

Portugal, one of Europe's oldest countries, is central to this 10-day itinerary which includes five UNESCO World Heritage sites. This journey blends historical exploration with modern cultural experiences, and a visit to São Miguel Island in the Azores. Highlights include:

  • Viewing European art at the São Roque Church, the Convent of Christ, and the Jerónimos Monastery.
  • Savoring traditional cuisine influenced by global spice trades and touring vineyards for private wine tastings.
  • Admiring the Lello Bookstore in Porto and touring the city on an electric tuk tuk.
  • Kayaking or biking in the UNESCO World Heritage Douro Valley.
  • Exploring São Miguel Island's gardens, geothermal activity, the Sete Cidades natural area, and whale watching with a local marine biologist.

Sri Lanka: Wildlife and Wonders of the Spice Island

Sri Lanka offers a rich historical narrative dating back 3,000 years. This 11-day expedition includes six UNESCO World Heritage sites and numerous wildlife observation opportunities. Highlights include:

  • Exploring the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and the Galle Fort.
  • Touring a primate research station and observing endemic primate species.
  • Discovering the Oceanswell foundation, founded by National Geographic Explorer Dr. Asha de Vos, and participating in marine research.
  • Visiting Sri Lanka’s tea country and a cinnamon plantation, and enjoying a traditional cooking class.
