Robert Downey Jr. Sets Sail as Godparent of Disney Adventure

A Super Hero Send-Off for Disney Adventure

Robert Downey Jr. is officially stepping into a brand-new role — godparent of the Disney Adventure, the newest and largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. The big reveal arrives just in time for the ship’s maiden voyage next month from sunny Singapore.

According to Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, the Disney Adventure continues a cherished tradition: bringing legendary storytelling to the high seas. With Downey’s cinematic legacy helping shape the Marvel universe, the pairing feels less like coincidence and more like destiny — with a splash of pixie dust.

From Iron Man to Ship’s Champion

Downey’s iconic turn as Tony Stark — the genius, billionaire, philanthropist behind the Iron Man suit — helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe into box office history. The journey reached dazzling heights with Avengers: Endgame, which soared past $2.79 billion globally.

Named a Disney Legend in 2019, Downey isn’t hanging up the cape anytime soon. He is set to return to the Marvel spotlight as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, arriving in theaters December 18.

As for becoming a ship’s godparent? Downey described the Disney Adventure as nothing short of majestic — and hinted that a “gargantuan blessing” would be required. For a vessel of this size, subtle simply will not do.

Seven Lands, Countless Stories, and One Epic Roller Coaster

The Disney Adventure transforms more than 100 years of Disney storytelling into seven themed areas designed for wide-eyed wonder.

At Marvel Landing, perched high on the top decks, thrill-seekers can board Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run — the first roller coaster ever featured on a Disney Cruise Line ship and the longest of its kind at sea. Yes, that means high-speed heroics with an ocean breeze.

In Disney Imagination Garden, “Avengers Assemble!” bursts onto the stage with jaw-dropping stunts, dazzling effects, and a larger-than-life showdown between Marvel Super Heroes and villains. Meanwhile, inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club, young recruits can step into the Marvel WEB Workshop to test suit prototypes and tackle top-secret Avengers training simulations. Hero status pending.

Dining, Dazzle, and a Dash of Disney Magic

Beyond the capes and coasters, the Disney Adventure delivers signature Disney hospitality with a playful twist. Guests can expect Broadway-style productions, character encounters that spark childhood joy, and themed staterooms designed to feel like storybooks come to life.

More than 20 dining and lounge venues serve up world-class international dishes alongside Asian-inspired cuisine and inventive beverages — because even Super Heroes need a snack break.

A Blessing Before the Big Voyage

The tradition of naming a godparent is a centuries-old maritime custom, believed to shower a new ship with good fortune before its first journey. With Robert Downey Jr. offering his blessing, the Disney Adventure sets sail with cinematic charm, heroic spirit, and just the right amount of theatrical flair.

All aboard for a maiden voyage worthy of a Marvel-sized celebration.
