Exciting New Monsters, Inc. Coaster Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Disney fans are in for a scream-worthy adventure as Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios team up to bring Monstropolis to life at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This new land will immerse guests in the world of Monsters, Inc., complete with familiar characters, exciting details, and a thrilling new coaster experience.
Step into Monstropolis
First announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, this highly anticipated expansion will allow guests to explore the bustling streets of Monstropolis. The highlight? A high-energy roller coaster inspired by the iconic door vault scene from Monsters, Inc.
“Imagineers have been itching to turn that moment into an attraction ever since we saw it for the first time,” shared Imagineer Michael Hundgen during The Future of World-Building at Disney panel at SXSW.
A First-of-Its-Kind Coaster Experience
The new attraction will introduce two exciting ride features never seen before at a Disney Park. This will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster — designed to make guests feel as if they’re soaring through the chaotic door vault. Adding to the excitement, the ride will also feature Disney’s first-ever vertical lift, adding a thrilling upward launch before guests dive into the action.
During the panel, Imagineers revealed an early animatic showcasing how riders will board their vehicle before being lifted skyward, just like in the film’s unforgettable door vault sequence. From there, guests will twist, turn, and zoom through a fast-paced adventure filled with familiar faces like Sulley, Mike, and more.
A Dream Come True for Pixar Fans
“I can tell you that everyone at Pixar is excited about how this is coming together,” said Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter. “It really is like a dream come true for us.”
With an immersive Monstropolis setting and a one-of-a-kind coaster experience, this new Monsters, Inc. attraction promises to deliver big thrills and even bigger laughs. Stay tuned for more details as Imagineers continue to bring this exciting new land to life.
