Big Changes Ahead: Disneyland Resort Expands with New Attractions and Upgrades
A Magical Makeover: Disneyland Resort’s Future Expansion Plans
Exciting updates are coming to Disneyland Resort as plans unfold for a major expansion that includes a state-of-the-art parking structure, two brand-new attractions, and themed experiences inspired by Coco and Avatar. With construction beginning in 2026, the magic is growing in more ways than one.
A Sleek New Gateway to the Magic
A new parking and transportation hub is on the way, set to rise on the east side of the resort where the Manchester cast member lot currently stands. With around 6,000 new parking spaces, improved shuttle and rideshare options, and direct access from Disney Way, this hub aims to streamline the guest arrival experience.
One of its standout features? A pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard, connecting visitors to a reimagined esplanade and offering easy public access into the heart of the magic.
Laying the Groundwork for Growth
This new infrastructure marks the first step in preparing for a wave of upcoming attractions. Highlights include two additions that will double the size of Avengers Campus, along with a colorful Coco-inspired ride and an expansive Avatar destination—all coming to Disney California Adventure Park. Construction for the new arrival area kicks off in fall 2026.
Coco Comes to Life Near Pixar Pier
Set to brighten the area between Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, the Coco-themed attraction will be built where backstage areas currently sit. Construction is set to begin behind the scenes this fall, bringing Miguel’s musical journey closer to reality.
Journey to Pandora Begins in Hollywood Backlot
Plans are also in motion to reimagine part of the Hollywood Backlot as a breathtaking Avatar experience. While details are still in the works, the transformation will require the closure of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! in early 2026.
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning of a bold new chapter for Disneyland Resort. With infrastructure improvements and imaginative experiences on the horizon, the happiest place on Earth is preparing to become even more magical.
