Big news for Avengers fans — two thrilling new attractions are set to expand Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort's Disney California Adventure Park, and none other than Robert Downey Jr. made a surprise appearance to help announce the details.

New Adventures Coming to Avengers Campus

Announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, these exciting new experiences will immerse guests even deeper into the Marvel Universe. During The Future of World-Building at Disney panel at SXSW, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Walt Disney Imagineering President Bruce Vaughn shared fresh details about these upcoming attractions.

Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests on an epic mission alongside heroes like Black Panther, Ant-Man, Hulk, and more. Guests will join forces with the Avengers to battle King Thanos across multiple worlds in a high-stakes fight to save the universe.

But before you can fight like an Avenger, you’ll need some training. Enter Stark Flight Lab, where guests will explore Tony Stark’s workshop and test out his latest tech innovations.

Robert Downey Jr. Makes a Surprise Appearance

In a memorable moment, Robert Downey Jr. appeared onstage to roaring applause, praising the Imagineers working on these attractions as “the living embodiment of the Stark Enterprises mission statement.”

“The curiosity, the passion, the inventiveness — and, yes, the flair for the dramatic — all come together to create something amazing,” Downey said. “It’s an honor to be part of this.”

Downey also joked about the top-secret nature of Imagineering’s headquarters, comparing it to “the Area 51 of fun.”

Innovative Technology in Stark Flight Lab

In Stark Flight Lab, guests will climb into “gyro-kinetic pods” that roll along a track before stopping in front of a massive robot arm. This arm will then lift guests into the air for high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and other Avengers.

“Transferring from a track to a robot arm and then back again — nothing like this has ever been done before in a theme park,” Vaughn explained. “Here, the tech itself is part of the story, so we’re putting it front and center.”

DUM-E Joins the Action

A familiar face from the Iron Man films will also play a role in Stark Flight Lab. Downey noted that one of the robot arms in the attraction closely resembled DUM-E, Tony Stark’s trusted robotic assistant. Inspired by Downey’s comment, Imagineers brought DUM-E into the attraction’s story.

To ensure the robots feel as lifelike as possible, Imagineers worked with dancers and motion capture technology to create realistic movements — adding personality to the machines.

More Marvel Magic Ahead

With these two major additions coming soon, the future of Avengers Campus looks action-packed. Downey hinted that this may not be his last Disney Parks project, playfully telling Feige and Vaughn, “This isn’t a one-time deal. You need more me.”

Get ready to suit up and save the day when these exciting new Avengers Campus attractions arrive at Disneyland Resort.
