Disney’s Animal Kingdom Character Guide: Where to Meet Rare Favorites
Some of the rarest character encounters in all of Walt Disney World Resort are tucked inside Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. From jungle royalty to crime fighting duos, here is where to find them and how to make the most of every meet and greet.
Finding Characters with the My Disney Experience App
Locating characters around the park is simple with a few taps.
Open the map pin at the bottom of the screen, then swipe left at the top and select Characters. Choose Locations to pick the theme park, and browse the map or tap Show List to see everyone nearby. Selecting a character reveals exactly where and when they will appear throughout the day.
The Lion King Characters Greet Guests at the Oasis
A wise mandrill and a hula-loving meerkat are ready for their close-up near the park entrance. Rafiki leads the way with his usual wisdom, and when he steps aside for meditation, Timon happily takes over, dance moves included. Both characters begin greeting guests about an hour after opening and rotate every 30 minutes.
Pocahontas Waits Just Around the Riverbend
For one of the most unique greetings anywhere at Walt Disney World Resort, head right when entering the Oasis. Just before the bridge to Discovery Island, Pocahontas can be found in a lush, natural setting that suits her adventurous spirit perfectly.
Zootopia's Finest Patrol Discovery Island
Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are on the case at The Gathering Spot near the Tree of Life, just outside Zootopia: Better Zoogether. This dynamic duo ranks among the most popular characters in the park, so building in some extra time for the line is a smart move.
Up Characters Bring Surprise Adventures to Discovery Island
Wilderness Explorers wandering the Discovery Trails might spot Russell along the way. His appearances are a delightful surprise since they do not always show up in the My Disney Experience app. Enter the trails to the left of the Tree of Life, just before the bridge to Africa, for the best chance at a sighting. Kevin's bright colors are hard to miss around Discovery Island, and Dug is always up for a chat, especially if asked whether he has spotted any squirrels lately.
Play Time with Bluey and Bingo at Conservation Station
This one-of-a-kind experience swaps the traditional meet and greet for pure play. Hop aboard the Wildlife Express at Harambe Station, near the exit to Kilimanjaro Safaris, and head to Conservation Station to dance and play games like Magic Asparagus, Keepy Uppy, and the Octopus Game with Bluey and Bingo.

Mickey and Friends Dress for Safari Adventure
Animal Kingdom is the only park where Mickey Mouse and his pals trade their classic looks for safari style. The day can start with Donald and Daisy Duck, dressed and ready for adventure near Garden Gate Gifts just after entering the park.
Mickey and Minnie await in their own khakis and safari hats at Adventurers Outpost, near the bridge to Asia. Just past that bridge, Goofy and Pluto round out the safari squad. These outfits are exclusive to Animal Kingdom, making them a must for anyone hoping to snap a truly one-of-a-kind photo.
