Celebrating 70 Years of Magic: New Walt Disney Exhibits Unveiled at Disneyland

Main Street Opera House at Disneyland with banners for “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” and “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.”

On July 17, 2025, Disneyland Resort celebrated its 70th anniversary with the grand opening of all-new gallery experiences at the Main Street Opera House. These immersive exhibits pay tribute to Walt Disney’s visionary spirit and the evolution of Disneyland—from its earliest sketches to the beloved park it is today.

A Journey Through Imagination

The exhibit begins with “Evolution of a Dream,” highlighting how a simple idea—sparked during family outings—blossomed into a world-renowned destination. Visitors can explore rarely seen concept art, pencil sketches, and site plans, many on public display for the first time.

Banners overhead represent each Disneyland land, while beneath them, vivid storyboards trace their growth from initial designs to modern-day marvels. Vintage treasures, from early park merchandise to a nostalgic display of Mickey ears and Disney watches, showcase 70 years of magical style.

Rare Artifacts from The Walt Disney Family Museum

In collaboration with The Walt Disney Family Museum, the exhibit features more than 30 rare items, including personal artifacts from Walt’s private apartment above the Disneyland Fire Station. Original furniture, such as rocking chairs, dining chairs, and a signature cranberry-colored lamp, evoke a warm glimpse into Walt’s home within the park.

Additional displays highlight prestigious honors, including Walt’s 1955 Emmy for Walt Disney’s Disneyland, his 1964 Presidential Medal of Freedom, and even a unique plaque from the Racing Pigeon Association—each reflecting Walt’s diverse legacy.

A Legacy of Innovation: Audio-Animatronics

The gallery continues with a deep dive into the origins of Audio-Animatronics, a revolutionary storytelling technology pioneered by Walt. Highlights include original and replica figures from landmark attractions like the Enchanted Tiki Room, Pirates of the Caribbean, and it’s a small world.

A pair of Tiki Room birds and a doll from the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair invite guests to relive the awe of Walt’s breakthroughs in animation and engineering. Surrounding portraits and displays pay tribute to the creative partnerships that brought these innovations to life.

“Memories of Walt”: A Touching Video Tribute

A heartfelt short film titled “Memories of Walt” features personal recollections from those who knew Walt or were inspired by his dreams. Through emotional stories and insights, visitors gain a deeper appreciation of the man behind the magic.

Honoring the Past and Looking Ahead

After enjoying the main attraction, Walt Disney – A Magical Life, visitors exit through a corridor filled with historical images of cast members who’ve helped shape Disneyland over the decades. A sprawling mural showcases beloved entertainment and iconic attractions, culminating in a forward-looking glimpse at Disneyland’s future.

With new experiences on the horizon, the gallery reminds guests of Walt’s timeless philosophy: Disneyland will never be complete as long as imagination exists.

Together, these exhibits create a rich, inspiring journey that honors Walt Disney’s life, celebrates 70 years of Disneyland, and invites guests to dream about what’s next.
