Understanding the Changes to Disney Genie+: Lightning Lane Multi Pass

A triptych featuring colorful scenes: Mickey Mouse in a ride, a large AT-AT walker, and a spooky tower against a stormy sky.

At Walt Disney World Resort, guests have expressed a desire for more planning options before their theme park day. In response, Disney is making changes to the Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane entry this summer, introducing new ways for guests to plan ahead.

Starting July 24, Disney will simplify the names of these services for better clarity. The Disney Genie+ service will be renamed Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and individual Lightning Lane will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Additionally, Disney will update the Lightning Lane passes to help guests:

- Make Lightning Lane plans before their visit for added confidence.
- Choose experiences and times prior to purchasing to ensure clarity.
- Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days in a single transaction.

Here's how Lightning Lane passes will work beginning July 24:

Lightning Lane Multi Pass
When guests purchase the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, they can make up to three Lightning Lane selections in a theme park before their visit, choosing available times as they make their selections. On the day of their visit, after using a selection, they can check the My Disney Experience app for availability to make additional selections.

Lightning Lane Single Pass
The Lightning Lane Single Pass will continue to allow guests to secure a time to ride one of Disney’s most popular attractions. Now, guests will be able to make their purchase and plan in advance.

How to Plan Ahead
Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel or select hotels (Shades of Green Resort, Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels) will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to seven days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to three days in advance. These advance purchase windows will allow guests to secure their must-do rides and experiences after considering their dining reservations and other plans.

Guests will have the option to purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass, or both. The app will also be updated to streamline the purchase and planning process, with fewer steps and a new option to purchase both passes in one transaction.

The Lightning Lane passes will blend features from the current services and the former FastPass+ service, providing guests the opportunity to plan ahead and reducing the need for planning during their vacation.

A quick video demonstrating how Lightning Lane passes at Walt Disney World Resort will work is available:

Disneyland Resort will also adopt the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass names starting July 24. However, the way guests purchase, select, and redeem Lightning Lane passes at Disneyland Resort will remain unchanged due to the unique ways guests visit the park.

The complimentary features of the Disney Genie service will continue to be available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps. Both apps have received upgrades over the past year to make features like dining reservations and mobile food ordering easier to use.
