Rapunzel’s Tower to Join Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland
Rapunzel’s Tower Brings Tangled Charm to Storybook Land Canal Boats
A magical new addition is coming to Disneyland’s beloved Storybook Land Canal Boats this winter: a miniature version of Rapunzel’s Tower from Tangled. Arriving just in time for the Disneyland Resort’s 70th Celebration, this charming landmark will be nestled between the Patchwork Quilt and Toad Hall when the attraction reopens.
A Tower of Detail and Delight
The newly revealed concept art showcases Rapunzel’s iconic tower, complete with a shingled turret, lofty windows, and vibrant greenery surrounding its base. Flynn Rider’s infamous wanted posters line the nearby stone walls—each hilariously inaccurate in its own way.
Guests will also spot a tiny boat dock inspired by the one featured in the film, twinkling lights winding up a nearby trellis, and the familiar rumble of the Casey Jr. Circus Train overhead. The experience will be musically enhanced too—expect to hear “When Will My Life Begin?” by day and the dreamy strains of “I See the Light” at dusk, bringing the lantern-lit romance of Tangled to life in miniature.
A Nod to Walt’s Love for Miniatures
Storybook Land Canal Boats has a history as detailed as its miniatures. Originally launched in 1955 as Canal Boats of the World, the attraction was reimagined less than a year later to celebrate beloved fairytales in miniature form. It reopened in 1956 as Storybook Land Canal Boats, a direct reflection of Walt Disney’s lifelong passion for miniatures.
Today, this tranquil boat ride continues to enchant, showcasing iconic scenes from films like Cinderella, Geppetto, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen—all narrated live by expert cast members.
Tiny Details, Big Magic
Storybook Land Canal Boats is filled with hidden gems for those who look closely. Here are just a few highlights guests can enjoy:
Living Letters of Welcome
The attraction’s unique entrance sign spells “Storybook Land” using living, hand-planted foliage—a landscaping technique called “parterre,” known for creating intricate designs with plants.
A Ticket to the Past
Outside the queue, a red-and-white lighthouse stands as a nod to the past—it once served as a ticket booth before the days of all-inclusive park admission. In 1956, this ride was considered a “D-ticket” attraction.
Boats with Personality
Each boat on the canal is modeled after the picturesque barges of northern Europe. They’re hand-painted, uniquely colored, and named after Disney characters—see who’s guiding the ride before boarding!
A Whale of an Entrance
Guests begin their journey by sailing into the mouth of Monstro, the whale from Pinocchio. Look up to spot a clever detail: a blackened roof simulating the soot left by Pinocchio’s campfire escape plan.
Tiny Functional Doors
The miniature homes are more than just scenery—their doors open and close for maintenance and lighting, adding both function and authenticity to the fantasy.
Holiday Cheer in Miniature
During the Holidays at Disneyland Resort, the villages are dressed in festive cheer—from wreaths the size of coins to delicate dustings of snow.
Get ready to float into fantasy—Rapunzel’s Tower brings even more wonder to this timeless attraction. Guests can soon set sail into the world of Tangled, all in miniature, at Disneyland this winter.
Let the miniature magic begin!
