Something wicked is taking root at Magic Kingdom—and it all starts with a Wishing Well that went spectacularly wrong.

During the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress Disney Experiences showcase, Disney shared fresh details about Villains Land, the upcoming darkly delightful corner of Magic Kingdom. Inspired by classic Walt Disney Animation Studios characters, the land will tell an entirely new story where Disney Villains have gathered to chase the last traces of a powerful, poisoned wish.

A Fairytale Takes the Forest Path

Every proper fairytale has a moment when the safe path disappears and the shadowy forest starts looking suspiciously interesting. Villains Land begins there.

Deep within its foreboding forest sits a Wishing Well that has been torn apart by an evil wish. Instead of radiating goodness, the shattered structure has sent corrupted magic spilling through the woods. Naturally, that sort of power attracts a very particular crowd.

One by one, villains have arrived to claim what remains of the Well’s dark energy. Their new lairs—ranging from mighty fortresses to gleaming palaces—will reflect the personalities of their infamous owners, with treats, trinkets and other temptations tucked inside.

A Land Sized for Serious Scheming

Disney compared Villains Land’s size and scale to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, so this will not be a quick stroll through a villainous side street. There will be room to explore, plot a little mischief and discover the land’s shops and restaurants along the way.

Two major attractions will anchor the experience: a high-speed encounter with Maleficent and a dark ride through the Magic Mirror’s otherworldly domain.

Maleficent’s Mountain Has a Coaster Problem

The first headliner sends riders racing through enchanted briar surrounding Maleficent’s intimidating mountaintop fortress. The Mistress of All Evil herself awaits those bold enough to accept the invitation.

Disney says the coaster will include elements not previously attempted on similar attractions, making this more than a standard spin through the thorns. Apparently, Maleficent does not do subtle.

Step Through the Magic Mirror

The second major attraction is a dark ride hosted by the Magic Mirror, with an array of Disney Villains waiting on the other side of the glass.

The journey begins in the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen’s pristine palace, where the Magic Mirror is kept. From there, he transports riders into his mystical Mirror Realm, an ethereal space packed with villains conjured in ways only he can manage.

Special effects and physical sets will bring the Mirror Realm to life, turning one very familiar face from the Evil Queen’s wall into the gateway for an entire villain-filled adventure. Fairytale rules have been rewritten; the mirror is definitely not just for checking a royal outfit anymore.
