The engines are officially roaring at Universal Studios Hollywood! Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift opened September 16, 2026, bringing a whole new kind of thrill ride to the park — and yes, this one is FAST.
The new attraction is Universal Studios Hollywood’s first outdoor, high-speed roller coaster and the fastest coaster anywhere in the Universal Destinations & Experiences portfolio. It reaches speeds of up to 72 mph, includes four launches and, because this is Fast & Furious, actually makes riders feel like they’re drifting around the track.
Here’s what you can expect.
This Is Not Your Typical Roller Coaster
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is located on the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood, and you’ll start seeing Fast Saga details before you even get in line.
Outside, two stationary prop car reproductions give you an easy photo stop before heading into the garage-inspired building. Once you’re inside, things get even more interesting: part of the coaster track actually races through a transparent, enclosed section of the queue. So while you’re waiting for your turn, you’ll get a very close-up look at what you’re about to experience.
And then it’s time to ride.
The coaster uses a dual-launching, split-ride track, with trains alternating as they’re dispatched. Along the way, you’ll race over and under portions of the park’s multilevel Starway escalator and experience four launches, an inverted dive loop, a twisted pretzel loop and an inverted stall.
All together, there are 4,100 feet of aerial track, with speeds reaching 72 mph and forces of up to 3.6 Gs.
Yes, the Cars Actually Drift
This might be the coolest part.
Instead of simply sitting in a traditional coaster vehicle that follows the direction of the track, the individual vehicles on Hollywood Drift can rotate a full 360 degrees. That movement is programmed into the ride to give you the feeling that your car is drifting as you race around the course.
Even better, the vehicles are independently programmed, so the drifting experience can vary depending on which one you ride.
There are four vehicle designs, all inspired by cars Fast & Furious fans will recognize: a Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra.
The Dodge Charger takes its inspiration from Dom Toretto’s signature 1970 Charger. The Mazda RX-7 is inspired by the 1997 model driven by Han Seoul-oh, the Nissan Skyline GT-R is based on Brian O’Conner’s modified 2002 blue Skyline, and the Toyota Supra takes its cues from Brian’s unforgettable orange 1994 Supra.
Each vehicle even has its own audio system with engine and sound effects designed specifically for that car.
There’s Plenty for Fast & Furious Fans to Spot
Even if you’re the kind of person who notices every little movie detail, Universal has given you plenty to look for while you’re waiting.
The queue is filled with recreated props inspired by the Fast Saga films. Select displays also have QR codes that connect to additional behind-the-scenes information through Universal Studios’ Backlot Club.
You’ll find the Car Cannon featuring the car driven by Brian O’Conner in Fast & Furious 6, a Roll Cage and Winch featuring Dom’s 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8 from Fast Five, the Vault Truck from Fast Five and the motorcycle driven by Letty Ortiz in F9.
There’s also a recreated NOS System and Dodge Charger Engine, Owen Shaw’s Ramp Car from Fast & Furious 6, the Rolling Bomb from Fast X and a recreation of the rollover stunt rigging system used in the movies.
Basically, there’s a lot to look at before you ever make it onto the coaster.
Even the Artwork Has a Fast & Furious Connection
When you reach the arrival platform, look for the huge original mural by artist Tristan Eaton.
It recreates the final street-racing scene from 2001’s The Fast and the Furious, with the Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra racing alongside a speeding train. There’s also a second Eaton mural inside the queue celebrating the larger Fast & Furious franchise.
And because Hollywood Drift is built into the hillside, the setting becomes part of the ride itself. Universal Creative used the natural contours of the Hollywood terrain as part of the coaster’s structural foundation.
That also means you get some pretty incredible views while you’re up there, including the San Fernando Valley, Universal’s movie studio and the theme park.
You may not have much time to appreciate them at 72 mph, but they’re there!
One VERY Important Thing to Know Before You Ride
Leave the loose stuff in a locker.
And Universal really does mean all of it.
Because of the coaster’s speed, inversions and 360-degree rotating vehicles, all belongings have to be placed in the complimentary lockers located within the queue area. That includes your phone.
Guests also pass through metal detection before entering the ride platform, so this isn’t a ride where you can tuck your phone into a secure pocket and take it with you.
The good news: the lockers are complimentary, so you don’t have to pay extra just to keep your things safe while you ride.
Ready to Drift?
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift brings something completely new to Universal Studios Hollywood: a full-scale outdoor coaster with four launches, inversions, 360-degree drifting vehicles and 4,100 feet of track winding through the Hollywood hillside.
For Fast & Furious fans, there are movie details everywhere. For coaster fans, there’s that 72 mph top speed and some seriously interesting ride technology.
And for the rest of us?
