A new Disney ship is preparing to make a splash in Japan—and this one has a name that practically arrives with a cloud of pixie dust and a sketchbook in hand.
Disney Imagination will be the first ship in Disney Cruise Line Japan, beginning sailings from Tokyo in spring 2029.

Tokyo, Meet Disney Imagination
Disney Imagination will sail under Disney Cruise Line Japan, a Disney-branded cruise business operated by Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC). OLC also owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort under license from Disney, making this newest venture the next chapter in a longstanding relationship between the two companies.
The ship is being positioned as a place where creativity and optimism take the helm, inviting families to dive into the imagination at the heart of Disney storytelling. In short: the voyage begins in Tokyo, but the itinerary has room for a little daydreaming.
Ariel Takes Her Place on the Stern
Every Disney Cruise Line ship has a character perched on its stern, and Disney Imagination is keeping that tradition afloat with a particularly curious ocean explorer.
Ariel from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ The Little Mermaid will appear on the stern alongside Sebastian and friends from beneath the sea. Armed with her famously beloved dinglehopper, Ariel will create the ship’s name—a fitting wink to her adventurous spirit and her talent for finding unusual uses for human stuff.
From Bow to Stern, Disney Stories Await
Disney Imagination will bring Disney storytelling throughout the ship, alongside the hallmarks Disney Cruise Line fans expect at sea. That includes Broadway-style entertainment exclusive to Disney Cruise Line, chances to spend time with favorite Disney characters, and food and beverage experiences for the journey.
Families will also find dedicated spaces for kids, tweens and teens, while adults can retreat to exclusive adults-only areas when a quieter stretch of ocean is calling.
A New Chapter Sets Sail in 2029
Whether the day’s plan involves family fun, an adventure at sea or a little relaxation away from the bustle, Disney Imagination will pair the Disney Cruise Line experience with the service and hospitality for which the line is known.
Spring 2029 may still be a few tides away, but Japan’s first Disney Cruise Line Japan ship officially has its name—and Ariel already has the stern handled.
