The 21-year-old male western lowland gorilla has arrived at Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, where he is gradually joining the park’s family troop as its new leader. It is a major new chapter for one of the trail’s most beloved animal families.

A New Leader Steps Into the Troop

Bakari follows Gino, the longtime silverback who led the family group for nearly three decades, dating back to the park’s opening. Gino helped shape generations of gorillas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and beyond; now Bakari carries the troop into its next era.

Bakari previously lived with a bachelor group at another Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoo, where he socialized with other males.
